Okay, I’m going straight to the point. I have lots of cholesterol. I’m 39 years old this year, 1m78 for 82kg. I used to be healthy, never badly sick, practicing lots of sport, no drugs, no excessive junk food, until I get to live in Poland and work in this French restaurant (but that has nothing to do with junk food in this case, it’s the other way).
First in Poland, you can’t really find a good place for a very quick take-away meal, like sandwiches in France. You only have kebab, burgers, donuts, real greasy junk food. And at work, we have plenty of really good cheeses and cured meat. Things we don’t really have in the shops. So every time I was serving these, I couldn’t resist them. I had to have on piece. It’s okay when you only eat one or two slices a day, but when you do that all day, at the end, it’s a lot, it’s even too much.
It’s for that I have now over 3g of cholesterol…
So I’m on a diet, and I take pills as well. To be on such a diet is not that difficult. I mean at home. As I don’t buy this fat food anymore, I can’t be tempted. Meanwhile at work all the time I can hear from my chopping board “Eat me! Eat me! Eat me!!!”. Difficult, but I managed to resist for 6 weeks now. Kind of proud of it!
Friends are a bit doubtful, they don’t understand. I don’t look fat, I don’t look old, I’m lively, I don’t smoke. Okay I like to eat and drink. So this brutal change of culinary habits make them puzzled. I even heard someone saying that we all die one day. That’s true, we will all die, but as old as possible would be better. For me, my family, my friends, my cat and even more important for my wife.
I made Apple Chips recently. It’s not as you could think such a healthy recipe, there is added sugar, and I’m telling you that vitamins and other good stuff are gone big time as it’s dried at 100°C in the oven. But it tastes very nice, and it’s better in a cholesterol point of view than chips! I’m not overweighted, so I don’t have to cut my sugar intake.
