That’s it, winter is all over the city… It’s cold. It’s snowing all the time. It’s either not easy to walk, either to drive. But we manage to do so. It’s difficult and hard for everyone, animals, plants… but especially to the Parisians! We sincerely think of them.
What depresses me the most in Poland during winters, is not the freezing temperature. You get used to it quite easily. It’s the short days. Much shorter than in southern France where I come from. It’s dark at around 3:30 pm here. Quite early so.
So when it’s cold, of course we need to wear lots of clothes when going outside. To take pictures for example. And we drink lots of mulled wine when at home. So here is a recipe for this winter.
A Recipe of Mulled WIne
For a lovely day at home
Time needed: 30 minutes
- 2 litres of red wine
- 1 litre of white wine
- 150g of caster sugar
- 2 sticks of cinnamon
- 2 star anise
- Few cloves
- 2 oranges washed and cut into quarters
- 2 lemon washed and cut into quarters
Pour the two wines into a pot. Bring to the boil very slowly. Then, add in the spices, sugar and fruits. Simmer for 30 minutes, covered with a lid. Leave to cool down. Filter. Now the mulled wine is ready to drink, just make it hot again, without bringing it to the boil. It’s not good for the wine (like for coffee), and then it can burn you big time.
This is how my town looks like during winter. There is snow everywhere…
These pictures have few days old, so imagine now with 20 more centimeters of snow. What is nice with snow in town, it’s that, visually, it’s relaxing. At least at the beginning, because after it’s getting really dirty.
Below is a picture of Orłowo, a beach in Gdynia. Nice quiet place, especially at this time of the year. I will need to get back there again pretty soon, with all the snow we have now, it could be very interesting.
